Never been a fan of ebooks on handsets due to the small screen real-estate available but comics? That’s a different matter. The UClick and iVerse iPhone applications allow you to read a suitably encoded comic easily on your iPhone, panel by panel, and by all accounts, it’s a pretty good experience.
Both software houses allow you to download each issue of a comic for $0.99 at the iTunes store and the whole comic-book reading experience is actually enhanced rather than diminished by being on the iPhone. As you can only see a single panel at a time, you don’t accidently skip ahead to other parts of the story which is common when reading a multi-panel comic book. According to Shana Wolf at UClick the process mainly involves moving speech boxes around to fit the constraints of the iPhone
screen.
No word on DC or other power-house comic makers being brought into the fray just yet but if the UClick and iVerse applications prove to be the successes they look like being, we’re sure it’s only a matter of time.
