LG R20 and S20 – Not so High-Performance

When you label something as high-performance you need to deliver. No crowd is as unforgiving as the technology crowd and the the LG R20 and LG S20 to put it bluntly, are not quite up to scratch.

With the release of such machines as the Alienware 750i

, itself a budget high performance rig, LG have for some reason decided to grace us with the R20 desktop PC which hides a Core 2 Quad Q8200 under its slim exterior but would only be labelled high performance at a stretch.

The LG R20 also comes with 3GB of RAM and a GeForce 9500GS. If you work in an office you may be thinking that these specs aren’t so bad but if you know anything about the power of 8GB DDR2 memory and Core 2 Extreme QX9650 quad-core processor that your usual high-performance machine can pack then you will be thinking, ‘meh’.

The only really special thing about the LG R20 is the MDPC technology it packs (Multi Direction Platform Cooling) which enables it to remain as quiet as a (loud) mouse at 20db.

It’s sister machine the LG S20 is only somewhat better with a Core 2 Quad Q9400 CPU and a GeForce 9600GT. You would have hoped that the bulkier exterior of the LG S20 desktop (when compared to the R20) would have brought us some more treats but alas, no.
