After the release of the the Roku Netflix player
a few days ago Best Buy and Vudu may feel that some of their thunder has been stolen in ther video on demand market. However this has not stopped them announcing the new availability of Vudu set-top-boxes at Best Buys around California.
Previously the Vudu was only available direct or from Amazon.com restricting its reach in an already small market. This partnership with Best Buy should result in increased sales but as we’ve already mentioned, with strong competition form the likes of the Roku Netflix Player
, GadgetHeat
still thinks it’s going to be an upward battle for the Vudu
.
Added to this the fact that only Californian Best Buys will stock the product initially, this looks like a wait and see approach to the success of the product.
Vudu has a catalogue of around 5,500 movies, approximately 1,000 TV episodes and 150 HD movie titles. You can get your hands on the Vudu for a retail price for $295.
