What’s Gonna Happen When You’re Gone?

There is a famous television series put out by HBO that almost everybody these days is following intently. It is famous, among other things, for reminding us that all of us human beings die. The when where how and why can change drastically, but in the end we all have to cross that river, or go through that door, or whatever other analogy you prefer.

But that doesn’t mean that we have no control over what happens after that moment. Society has provided us with many different options for going out in style.

Cremation

It’s no doubt that cremation services are an excellent option, and one that continues to grow in popularity. 50.2% of all cadavers in the United States in 2016 wound up being cremated, these figures are new, and it is only in recent years that cremation has passed traditional burial in popularity. It’s definitely the cheapest (legal) option out there, and whatever is done with the ashes afterwards, it saves land which is getting more and more valuable as the population of the planet continues to rise.

Traditional Burial

This still may be your best option. Remember that when you are gone you are going to leave loved ones who are grieving for you. Some of these loved ones may have cultural or even religious preferences or strictures that you may want to consider in making your decision. Also, there may already be a family plot or mausoleum in the mix that you may want to honor by being a part of when the time comes.

Donating Your Body to Science

This is actually an option that has been around for a long time and it’s a really great one. Donating your body to science means that students can become better practitioners in their chosen medical field. Working with cadavers is a necessary part of this process, and in fact, without donations, not only would it be hard for students to become ready to practice in their feilds, research itself would become very difficult and problematic. You can choose to donate your body either to a university program or a private body donation firm, depending on your personal preferences.
