This is what the Android G1 was made for. Third-party applications that would push the platform for all it’s worth and the TeleNav GPS application for the G1 definitely has a good go at maxing out the so far underused GPS chips the G1 has been sitting on.
After an initial 30 day free trial, the TeleNav GPS will cost Android G1 owners $9.99 a month for the luxury of genuine turn by turn GPS navigation. We could quibble on the price (for a year’s subscription you could but a fairly decent stand-alone GPS unit), but just for the sake of the multi function convenience the application will bring, we’ll give it a pass for now.
As a GPS application its fully blown with speech recognition, traffic and weather updates and even local gas prices. The PR hype states that 10 million businesses are listed along any of the routes you may travel on but who’s counting?
Scheduled to launch February 24th, the TeleNav GPS for Android G1 could be one to consider for those of you with limited car space but plenty of disposable cash. A phone with quality GPS softwear, who would have thought?….
