OpenFrame - The iPhone Of Home Phones

Every phone wants to be an iPhone. Most get over this fixation quickly and are satisfied with being mere also-rans but the OpenPeak’s OpenFrame IP home phone to the iPhone style and functionality and ran with it.

Announced way back at the beginning of the the year the OpenFrame is nearing release sometime in Q1 2009. The OpenFrame is a IP home phone with much of its features looking and feeling like the usability you would get from an iPhone. That’s no bad thing and as they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

OpenPeak’s OpenFrame home phone acts as an information media centre for your home with all the apps you would expect to find on a cell phone such as calender, weather, news etc. It also doubles as a digital picture frame and allows you to listen to internet radio through it’s interface.

Price-wise you’re looking at $200 - $300 mark which means that it’s more pricey than the current iPhone (now available for free on some tarrifs) and with more people relying on the cell phones for all their communication needs, the price of the OpenFrame IP home phone may be its only stumbling block.

Metallic Iphone Cover by Princeton- Mirror Effect

Tags: , , , , ,

We need more iPhone accessories, no really we do… OK just kidding but these metallic iPhone cases from Princeton are reasonably cool enough to be added to the mass of iPhone accessories on the market.

In 3 colors, pink, grey and blue, the cases also offer a mirror screen protector so you can hide your iPhone browsing activity from prying eyes. As iPhone accessories go these are pretty standard unlike this iPhone mod to make your Apple logo glow from Russia….

Glowing Apple iPhone - Muggers Rejoice

Tags: , , , , , ,

As if carrying your iPhone around in public didn’t make you enough of a target for your local hoody (and as if there wasn’t enough iPhone accessories), Russian iPhone specialists gPDa.ru have made it even easier for you to attract attention by creating iPhone mods that light up the ‘Apple’ logo on the back, and give it a bright glow.

Cool? Perhaps for high-school kids who want to be the shiznit with their customized iPhone but we all know that the kind of flies this will attract are likely to be pretty big and menacing. If you had any sense you would take the GadgetHeat advice and use our recommended paper iPhone alternative (it’s free and not nearly as risky…).

The iPhone mod to make your Apple logo glow won’t be available for a while but when it is, expect the street-crime rate to rise significantly….Video and pics below.

Death By iPhone

Tags: , , ,

Ok, that’s just a sensationalist headline but we really do have pictures of a dead iPhone. Well, not quite but we do have a picture of a coffin branded like an iPhone (close enough).
.
The iPhone coffin is for those gadget bods who just have to try to take it with them when they die. Creative Coffins, the ghoulish guys behind the artfully decorated coffins, don’t just restrict their designs to technology. You can have virtually anything you want painted on you soon to be home in the ground. From Halo 3 coffins to GTA IV coffins to a hotdog, you name it, you got it.
.
Personally, what is on the outside of my coffin would be the least of my worries when I’m dead. GadgetHeat recommends you start thinking of how you can live the rest of your life as best you can and leave the ordering of an iPhone coffin or a GTA IV coffin at the bottom of your to-do list.
.
If you absolutely have to have one, pop over to creative coffins and have a look at what they can knock-up for you…

Tastes Like, Looks Like, Smells Like - Chocolate!

iPhone Accessories With Flavour

Have to admit, we have a bit of a sweet tooth here at GadgetHeat and usbfever have done us a massive favour by releasing the chocolate iPhone case (we love novelty accessories, they’re just so classy).
.
Hold those horses though, you can’t devour this case (shame) as it’s made of silicon. Still looks pretty tasty (^^ pun intended) and if you have any chocoholic mates or girlfriends, this could be a nice novelty gift and iPhone accessory to get them (assuming of course, that they have the iPhone because if not they’ll look at you blankly as if to say - I love chocolate mate but where’s the iPhone?).
.
You can pick the chocolate iPhone case up for $26 (£14) from UsbFever.

3G iPhone - Official Pictures from the WWDC 2008

Tags: , , , ,

OK we’ve all known they’ve been coming and at long last they have arrived. The Apple 3G iPhone has been officially revealed by Steve Jobs at the WWDC and GadgetHeat have got the pictures to prove it.

3g-iphone-2

The main features of the iPhone 2.0 are of course the 3G capability (why this wasn’t available on it’s first release we’ll never know), the price - that’s right folks it starts at a ‘mere’ $199 for 8GB and $299 for 16GB and the Apple 3G iPhone works with third part applications from the get-go.

Apple has also introduced A-GPS which is supposed to be a superior GPS system (GadgetHeat will soon see how superior when we take it through it’s paces. Stay tuned for a detailed breakdown of all the applications that come with the Apple 3G iPhone by signing up to the GadgetHeat feed). Battery life stands at 300 hours standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio.

The nicest thing for the fashion conscious is that the 3G iPhone 16GB version will also be available in white (not red as in the fake pictures we saw a while back).

The phone is slightly thicker than it’s predecessor and also dispenses with the use of a dock and simply uses a USB power adapter.

The Apple 3G iPhone will be available in the USA and 21 other markets from 11 July (those 21 being Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK).

3g Iphone Pictures - Fake or Not?

Tags: , , ,

Everybody is gagging for it and you’ve all probably seen this by now but just in case you missed it we thought we would bring you the pictures of the 3G iPhone that we’ve found. Looks like it comes in various colors and is slimmer than the current iPhone model but is overall similar in look and feel.

There are differing opinions as to whether or not the pictures of the 3G iPhone are fake but we will find out in a few days at the key note speech on June 10th

iPhone and iTouch Do the Hudson

Tags: , , , , ,

Got an iPhone or iTouch? Into free games? If the answer to both those questions is yes then this post is for you.

Japanese video game developer Hudson Soft have just opened the doors of a free games portal of iPhone and iTouch users. Although this is a Japanese company and initiative, the portal is accessible to anyone who owns wither of these devices simply by going to touch.hudson.co.jp.

iphone

The range of iPhone and iTouch games offered at the moment is limited but no doubt will soon expand and they also offer a selection of free downloadable movies. Most of the Apple iPhone and iTouch games are pretty simple memory and match challenges but some do feature Bomberman and there are also a few poker and blackjack games if you like that sort of thing for your iPhone or iTouch.

Hop on over to touch.hudson.co.jp and check it out

3G iPhone Launch Date Confirmed

Tags: , , , , ,

3g-iphone

The geeks (pot calling kettle..) over at gizmodo have confirmed what we all knew. The Apple 3G iPhone will be formally introduces to the masses at the WWDC keynote on June 9th. It was previously thought that the new iPhone would be available at the years end but it will be available immediately worldwide after the formal launch in June.

I’m personally 50/50 about iPhones. I think their too pricey for what they offer and tying you into a two year contract is not appreciated by the GadgetHeat staff. That being said, there will no doubt be added goodies to go with the 3G functionality that have yet to be revealed by Apple (they love to tease).

After the generally negative response to their sales practice last time round (i.e. tying you to a particular provider in order to get your iPhone, fixed price for handsets etc), Apple have revised their worldwide partnering policies and it looks like the new phone may be available on multiple networks or tariff options at the same time which is good for those of us who want to get one…

Get Me One Of These Now - iWish

Tags: , , ,

Yes we know this is only a fan-art concept and the stuff of our dreams to boot but the Apple iWish would sell like hot-cakes if it was ever released onto the market.

With a sleek design, QWERTY keyboard and a million applications this is a christmas present shortage waiting to happen. The iWish is a never gonna happen mis-mash of a SONY PSP and iPhone. If anyone knows any of the bigwigs at either SONY or Apple, get them to take a look at this post…
