HTC Magic Android G2 Handset » The G1 Evolved
|
Sequels are rarely better than the originals but the HTC Magic Android G2 Handset trumps its G1 predecessor in nearly every respect (we are waiting on pricing and tariffs before we give it the full thumbs up).
The HTC Magic Android G2 phone looks not too dissimilar to a white version of the G1 but somehow manages to avoid looking as ugly. It’s like HTC took all the best bits from the look of the G1 and left out the wonky knees and elbows (like when an awkward teenager grows into their body over a long summer ^^).
All the details and specs via the official press release below but it looks like the HTC Magic Android G2 phone is an Android phone Google can be proud of. Video courtesy of Stuff.

Better, but I still think the iPhone looks so much nicer.
Matter of opinion I guess. We’re looking out gor what the iPhone Nano 3G will look like. If it’s anything like this, then we’ll be sorely tempted…
Functionally, the only differences I’ve found are more ROM, and no keyboard. Any improvement over the G1 seems to be subjective –do you prefer light weight or a slide-out keyboard, and do you like dull black or shiny white?
Other “improvements” that I’ve found listed on some blogs are merely enhancements in the cupcake version of Android, not hardware improvements. Cupcake will make the same improvements to the G1, as well. Keyboardless Magic requires Cupcake, because it adds the on-screen keyboard.
I was waiting on the G1, thinking the second gen would trump it functionally. This doesn’t do that, so I may just get the G1. The moment I buy any new hardware always ensures the quick advent of major improvements that I can’t get yet.
That’s the burden every gadget fan has to bear – do you get it now or wait for the next edition???
I will take this one…
if its not on-screen keyboard =.=
Wait–no keyboard?
This isn’t an improvement at all, then. This is just a crappy knock-off of the iPhone. The keyboard is what sold me on the G1.

I’d stick with the G1 for now because of the keyboard. But Android has so much more potential than apple’s operating system.

If you have the moolah, we’d opt for the HTC Hero instead of the G2
