Acer Aspire 8930-7665 – Gaming Machine
|
So Acer have released another twist on the A8930G series and it’s an extreme one – the Acer Aspire 8930-7665. This baby steps the gaming laptop genre up another level by being pimped out and affordable, a combination that we thought we would never see.
The Acer Aspire 8930-7665 laptop comes with a powerful Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9000 CPU and considering what this rig can do when it’s up and running, looks like a bargain at $1800. Other specs include an 18.4 inch screen, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB 7200 SATA hard drive (this is where the savings come in as we expect most gaming rigs these days to have at least 1 TB of hard drive space and an SSD option), and an NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT graphics card with 512MB of dedicated memory.
Tasty little package right there. If you fancy getting yourself a gaming laptop (and who doesn’t?) the Acer Aspire 8930-7665 is cheaper than it s competitors and pack around about the same level of punch so its definitely one to consider.

I want this laptop, im planning on getting one but I cant seem to find a retailer that carries it, would you know who carries it? I tried calling Acer HQ, Best Buy, and Newegg.com and their respective customer services, but they just gave me the run around. Any help in helping me locate a place to buy this laptop would be great, thanks.
It’s nowhere to be found. Is it even real?
[...] Gaming Laptops have to be one of my favourite breed and the more the merrier I say. The MSI GT627 joins this esteemed (IMHO) band of brothers and although it’s not the brains of the group, it’s no runt either. [...]
I purchased this Acer model from NewEgg.com:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115542
Performance wise, it turned out to be a dissappointment, and it ships with a 5400 RPM, vice a 7200. I had to RMA returned this item, since the specifications ae not as advertised…. read my NewEgg reviews.
My purchase was for $1,699.-, and NewEgg has since raised the price to $1,899-. I feel it is an over-statement and marketing hype to label this laptop as a ‘gaming rig’, due to the limitations of the NVIDIA 9700M GT. Though more costly, better solutions would be the 9800M series, or ATi’s Mobility 3870/4870 series. For gaming, a system will only perform as well as it’s graphic solution, and there are several C2D’s that will outperform the Q9000 processor.

Nice to here a hands-on review. Press releases are always full of bullcrap. The $1699 price tag was probably just to test the waters.
Bumping it up by $200 ‘just because’ is for the suckers who bought into the hype. Give it a couple of months an they will have a sale on advertising a $200 price drop. The Heat ain’t stoopid ya know ^^
