With all the furore about making things out of wood, a student in Sheffield England has come up with the worlds first usable cardboard bike as part of Sheffield University’s Creative Spark program.. That’s right folks, in essence the thing is made out of paper. Now that’s Eco-friendly (well, sort of, you still need to chop down all those trees to get to the paper…).

The cardboard bike can be yours for £15 ($30) and, here’s the good bit, it’s inherently waterproof and doesn’t get soggy in the rain! Student Inventor Phil Bridge explains that the bike, made from Hexacomb cardboard, has been designed to be as durable as possible whilst remaining cheap and easy to replace should it get stolen.

The avoidance of theft was his main aim in making a cardboard bike. Who would want to steal a cardboard bike when, for example, it’s chained up next to a $2000 Lance Armstrong replica with a suprisingly easy to break lock….?

Constant use of the cardboard bike will last you about 6 months before you would need a new one but for $30, GadgetHeat thinks it looks like a steal…
